Southern Vietnam is a region of Vietnam that includes two administrative regions: Southeast and Mekong River Delta. The region has a diverse geography, culture and economy, with Ho Chi Minh City as its largest and most dynamic city. Southern Vietnam was historically known as Gia Dinh, Nam Ky, Nam Bo and Nam Phan, and was the first part of Vietnam to be colonized by the French as French Cochinchina. Southern Vietnam is also home to many natural and cultural attractions, such as the Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc Island, Con Dao Island, Mui Ne Beach, Cu Chi Tunnels and Cao Dai Temple.
